History: Karai is the adopted daughter of Oroku Saki, the Utrom Ch'rell who landed on Earth and took on the mantle of the Shredder. She was raised by him in Japan and trained in the arts of ninjitsu as well as how to lead the severely complex crime syndicate known as the Foot. In her years living in the Oroku legacy, Karai developed an intense, literal translation of the honor codes as well as an undying loyalty to the only father she ever knew. This would cause conflict when the two ideologies would conflict.
During the City at War storyline, Karai arrived in New York while the city was in utter turmoil. Factions of several gangs were in bitter conflict to claim the former territories of the reportedly fallen Shredder. She soon found out about the turtles, who had inserted themselves in the war in hopes of keeping the city from falling apart, and approached them with a proposition: help her pull the Foot together and stop the war for everlasting peace between their clans. They accepted and soon repaired the order of the crime lords, though the Foot's hold on the crime world was not as strong as before.
Karai did not remain leader for long as her first run as the Lady Shredder as her father, fully-healed by the rejuvenating worms, returned to power. To Karai's chagrin he immediately returned to his bitter hatred of the turtles and attacked them. In the fight that followed, Karai was forced to face Leonardo who she had earned a mutual respect for. He attempted to convince her to keep her promises but she chose the loyalty to her father rather than her honor, skimming by with both by not killing him.
These skirmishes would continue and Karai consistently acted as the buffer between the clans, never leaving her father's side but never going back on her promises to the turtles. It was in this time that she first met Dr. Chaplin, the new Foot Tech Division Head, a red-head with a major crush on her. At the time she was only interested in her service to the Foot Clan, however, and largely ignored the Team Nerd.
Eventually Karai's decisions had to be made, however, as the turtles and Shredder faced off for the last time. During the ensuing fight, Saki severely injured the turtles and their master before moving in for the final blow. At last choosing honor over loyalty, Karai stopped her father just long enough for them all to be intercepted by the Utroms. Ch'rell, Chaplin, and Karai were then sentenced and the Utrom Shredder was seen apparently for the last time.
In the city again, Karai found herself the head of the Foot at the apparent death of her father and in tremendous grief. In her state of mind she concluded that the fault rested on the turtles rather than her father's former deeds. Thus Karai took on the name of Lady Shredder yet again, for good this time, and with Dr. Chaplin on her side ruled the Foot as well as the crime of New York City.
After the Tengu Shredder saga, Karai came to a "temporary" truce with the turtles to defeat their shared enemy: the Tengu Shredder. It was because of her willingness to act as the psychic link with her namesake and Dr. Chaplin's advanced use of both magic and technology that the world was saved from the Tengu Shredder. It was then that Karai seemed to overcome her overwhelming anger and feel for others again: such as Dr. Chaplin who she walked off with, hand in hand.
Personality: Karai is solid in her character. She is either loyal to you or she will want to kill you with few emotions in between. That being said, her range of loyalties are varied. The loyalty she felt for her father, for example, was all consuming. Her loyalty to the turtles was once similar, though weaker, and presently is nonexistent. Currently, her fiercest loyalties belong to Dr. Chaplin, her love interest, and the Foot. She is not very accepting of others in this "circle of trust." She is also a business woman, taking the place of her father as the face of Foot Tech Industries.
Strengths: Personally trained by the Shredder has given Karai unbelievable skills in both swordsmanship and hand to hand combat. She is also a very well trained liar, keeping a constant facade in the face of her enemies. She also is a remarkable leader, able to control the divisions of the Foot despite pronounced dislike of her.
Weaknesses: She is blinded by her own anger as well as her spite for the past events. Her loyalty also makes her prone to vulnerability to those that surround her: one of her aspects of her loyalty is the way she never suspects those she loves.
Appearance: A strong featured Japanese woman, Karai dresses usually in black (if not always) unless she is wearing the garb of Lady Shredder. She is also prone to large shoulder pads. Go figure. Also she apparently has blue hair? For the sake of reality we'll say it's black.
